Welcome to the Civil Air Patrol Honor Guard Academy!

SENIORS AND CADETS,

It is almost time for registration for the Honor Guard Academy and I wanted to give you all some helpful hints. These do work so think about trying some of them to get help with cost of travel and the academy.

  1. Let friends and family know that you are saving for the HGA and see if you can get monetary gifts instead of material gifts for holidays, birthdays, graduations, etc.
  2. Write letters to local American Legion, Moose Clubs, VFW’s, military organizations like Non-com clubs, etc. Be very specific in request ie; I am trying to go the HGA and I need assistance with tuition and plane fare. I would need $000.00 (amount of money needed). You might not get the total amount needed but you should receive something. Do not just say, "I need money." Tell the organizations why you want to go to the HGA. Let them know what the HGA is. Tell them what you do for the community as far as CAP goes.
  3. See if you know anyone with frequent flier miles and see if they would donate towards your flight costs.
  4. Do things in neighbors and see if you can shovel sidewalks, rake leaves, run errands for shut-ins, elderly, seniors that are sick, etc.
  5. One cadet went to a local business in her home town in uniform and spoke to owner and walked out with a three year scholarship to the HGA. There are a lot of people that does not know what CAP is or what we do.
  6. Get you squadron involved in you community and surrounding area. Volunteer for parking at local events, telethons, etc.
  7. I am always available by e-mail if you have questions. Remember you CAN NOT charge for your services but you can accept donations for services rendered.
